Narrative (to tell a story)
Examples of such writing include: novels, short stories, diaries, and auto biographies
Expository (to inform or explain)
Examples of such writing include: instruction booklets (oven/lawn mower/video games), directions (to put something together), research papers, and resumes
Persuasive (to construct an argument)
Examples of such writing include: advertizement, movie reviews, and restaurant critiques
Descriptive (to paint a picture with words)
Examples of such writing include: menus, travel brochures, catalogs, and letters (personal and business)
Imaginative (to create a new way of seeing things)
Examples of such writing inculde: fairy tales, science fiction, and mysteries
